Mass percent = mass of solute / mass of solution

Mass of solution = mass of solute + mass of solvent

here mass of solution = 500g

mass percent = 2.5%

let the mass of solute be x, then

2.5% = x/500

x = 12.5g

hence mass of sugar is 12.5g

as, mass of solvent = mass of solution - mass of solute

mass of solvent = 500 - 12.5g

therfore, mass of solvent = 487.5g

hence, 487.5g of water is required to prepare 500g of 2.5% sugar solution.

Here, salt solution is a homogeneous mixture whereas, milk is a colloidal mixture (heterogeneous)

3 differences between salt solution and milk are :-

  • Tyndall effect will be only shown by milk as it is a colloid.
  • Size of solvent of salt sol. is less than 1nm whereas, size of solvent in milk ranges from 1nm to 1000nm
  • Particles of True Solution are not visible to naked eye. Colloidal particles are not seen to naked eye but can be studied through ultra microscope.

hope it helps....
