The Navratri and the legends

It is said that there occurs 4 navartris per year.
Currently runing Navaratri is the one that started after the Mahalaya Amavasya.
These navaratri (Nine days) till the end of Dasami Devi durga is worshipped in her various forms.
Different places worship Devi in different forms. Some worship Devi Durga according to Nava Durga sampraday.

The nine forms of Durga are:
1. Shailaputri
2. Brahmacharini
3. Chandraghanta
4. Kushmanda
5. Skanda Mata
6. Katyayani.
7. Kalaratri
8. Maha Gauri
9. Sidhidatri.

All these forms have separate significance of their form.

There are also so many legends of the Navaratri which specifies occurance of forms of Devi like 'Mahishasura mardini'.
All these describe the nature of goddesses protecting the world from being destroyed by the demons like Mahishasura, Raktabeeja , Shumbh-Nishumbh etc.

Devi exists in all forms like power, forgiveness, sense of decency, power of remember, hunger and so on to prove omnipotence , omnipresence.

Meaning of Navratri

Navratri literally means 'Nine Nights' in the Sanskrit language. There are various myths associated with the festival and different religions and communities in India have a different way to celebrate the festival but the festival is primarily dedicated to goddess Durga (symbol of power) who is worshipped in nine forms during the nine days of Navratri.
