In the team of eleven members, the two most important persons were Edmund Hillary, a climber from New Zealand and Tenzing Norgay, a Sherpa from India. Hillary and Norgay reached the summit of Mount Everest at 11.30 a.m. on 29th May 1953. They became the first men to do so.
