A dispersed settlement, also known as a scattered settlement, is one of the main types of settlement patterns used by landscape historians to classify rural settlements found in England and other parts of the world. Typically, there are a number of separate farmsteads scatteredthroughout the area.

The settlement in which the houses are closely built up and compact is known as clustered settlement... Example of hamleted settlement can be seen in the middle and lower Ganga plain , Chhattisgarh and lower valleys of the Himalayas. The isolated settlement is known as dispersed settlement.
