Historical perspective of education management in India:

  • The Indian education system was introduced in ancient India through the Gurukul system of education. Here whoever was interested in studying would go to the house of the Guru or teacher and live there and be taught by them.
  • Thereafter the modern school of education with English was introduced in India by Lord Thomas Babington Macaulay in the 1830s.
  • Here the teaching mode shifted to the classrooms and the students were mainly taught science and Mathematics.
  • Thomas Babington Macaulay tried to change the traditional system of education to more modern methods of education which are the present form.
  • The English language was given a priority where the British wanted the Indians to serve in the administrative offices and act as intermediaries between the British and the Indians.
