- To avenge the wrong done by the Government in Punjab (Jallianwala Bagh Massacre) in a non violent way. To bring about unity among the people. To inculcate a sense of nationalism. To promote khadi and to attain Swaraj.
- They surrendered the titles awarded to them by the British government. They boycotted civil services, army, police, courts and legislative councils, schools and foreign goods.
- Rich peasants participated in the Civil Disobedience Movement to fight against high revenues. But the movement was called off without the reduction of revenue rates. The peasants were so dissapointed that when the Civil Disobedience Movement was relaunched, they refused to participate in it.
- Association of Congress with Hindu Mahasabha : After the decline of the NonCooperation – Khilafat movement, a large section of Muslims felt alienated from the Congress. So Muslims could not respond to the call for a united struggle.
- Large scale participation of women was an important feature of the Civil Disobedience Movement. During the Salt March, thousands of women came out of their homes to listen to the speeches of Gandhi. women participated in protest marches, manufactured salt, and picketed foreign cloth and liquor shops.
