E.H. Carr gave this statement as he divided the historical facts into two phases that is 'facts of the past' and 'historical facts'.

On basis of his division Carr defined that 'facts of the past' are unimportant while historical facts' are considered important.

In his book, he rejected the part of Historians which is a traditional method and practices of historical investigation and place of that laid out historiographical principles.

Carr was not only a historian but also a diplomat, international relations theorist, and journalist.
