It could not be properly affirmed as from which country the game of football originated. Some say it is from Egypt, others say from China, but in fact, it is very old game. Now a days, football is a very popular game in world.. In Egypt Football is called 'Harpaston'.Football was played in 'China 'during 300 B. C. to 500 A. D.

In China, it was called 'Tsuchu' which meant kicking the ball. There are evidences that this was a popular game among the Chinese soldiers. In the second century the romans won over Egyptians. Since then, this game become very popular game of the Romans.

When they conquered England, this game went with them to England. England spread it over to other neighbouring countries and it became popular. England developed it further and gave it ultimately the Modern shape of the game, in the year 1934.

'Sheffield Football Club 'was first football club to be formed in England on 27th October, 1857. The first International Football match was held between Scotland and England in the year 1872. On May 21 , 1904 , FIFA (Federation of International Football Association) was established. It's main purpose was to organise international level competitions. In the year 1906, England became it's member.

Another organisation, UEFA, was constituted In Europe. Africa, America and Asia also set up it's own federations on the above lines in the years 1956 ,1961, and 1964 ,respectively . In 1908, football was included in the Olympic Games. America won First World Cup Football (women) In the year 1991.The Indian Football association, IFA, is the controlling body for the Indian football.
India participated in the 1948 Olympics games.
