When the first world war broke out in 1914 Britain had to turn the Steel produced in Tata Iron and Steel company or TISCO to construct the Railways. This was because still produced in Britain was taken up in used to meet the demands of the first world war. Gradually steel from TISCO was also used to produce war materials.
