The revolt of 1857 led the British to reverse their policy towards the lndian States . Most of the Indian princes had not only remained loyal to the British ,but had actively assisted in suppressing the revolt.

But the main change in the policy is that

(i) the powers that were enjoyed by the British east lndia company were goes in the hands of British government .

ii) British government abolished the Doctrine of Lapse.

iii) Indians were given high posts and government jobs in British government .
