Position :- Located on the central side of the heart and the aorta. (Bilobed gland situated in mediastinum space ).

Origin :- Endodermal

Nature of thymosin :- Proteinaceous

Functions of thymosin :-

  • Thymosin play a major role in the differentiation of T-lymphocytes, which provide cell mediated immunity

  • According to one of the Theory of ageing the decline an disapperance of thymus gland by middle age is the primary cause of ageing.

  • The thymus provide cell mediated immunity so thymus is also called "Thorne of immunity" or "Training school of T-lymphocytes".
