Biodiversity :

  • Variety of life forms existing on the Earth is known as Biodiversity.

  • It maintains the ecological balance on the earth.

  • It helps in preventing species' extinctions in one way to preserve biodiversity.

  • There are three types of biodiversity :

  1. Genetic Diversity.
  2. Species Diversity.
  3. Ecological Diversity.

Genetic Diversity :

  • It is associated with other species through genetic connections.

  • The more closely associated two species are, the more genetic information they will share, and the more similar they will appear.

  • Members of a species share genes,ie. they show similarity in how the animals look, behave and live.

Species Diversity :

  • It's the variety of species within a habitat or a region.

  • Species are the basic units of biological classification and even can be said as the normal measure of biological diversity.

Ecological Diversity :

  • It's the very complicated network of different species present in ecosystems.

  • It consists of organisms from many different species living together in a region and their connections through the flow of energy, nutrients, matter, etc.
