HOW CAN WE TEST THE PRESENCE OF THE GAS SULPHUR MONOXIDE (SO) .OR WHAT ARE THE GENERAL CHARACTERISTICS OF SULPHUR MONOXIDE GAS.

Sulphur Monoxide

Sulphur monoxide or SO is an unstable compound that exist in very critical conditions. SO is formed only when electricity is used of in mixture of sulphur dioxide and sulphur vapours.

Characteristics of SO

• Sulphur Monoxide is a colourless gas which condenses at room temeperature and have unusual smell.

• Sulphur Monxide condenses to form orange - red substance which decomposes with time to form SO₂ and Sulphur vapours.

Sulphur Monoxide is not forned in reactions easily and Class 10 CBSE don't have discussion of this compound.
