Organisms differ in their form, structure and mode of living. Hence, based on their similarities they should be grouped. The grouping of related organisms helps us in studying their evolutionary relationships. Classification is the division of organisms on the basis of characteristics into groups and sub-groups.

Classification is the reflection of evolutionary relationships between organism.
More than two organisms are related to each other more characteristics they have in common.
Characteristics they have in common more recently they common ancestor like a girl and her real brother.
Similarities between organisms allow us to Group them and study these groups to deter mine how these organisms are evolutionary related.
