Answer- Apartheid- Aparthied is the name of the system of racial discrimination unique to South Africa. This system was imposed by the white Europeans on the natives of South Africa.

Extra Information:

1. The system of apartheid divided up the people and labelled them on the basis of skin colour.

i) The natives(actual residents) of South Africa have their skin colour as black. They made up about the three-fourth of the population and so they were called 'blacks'.

ii) There were also people of mixed races and people who migrated from India who were called 'coloured'.

2. The white people treated all non-whites as inferiors. The non-whites didn't have the right to vote.

3. The apartheid system was particularly oppressive as the non-whites were forbidden to live in white areas. Even they couldn't work in white areas. If they wanted to, they had to ask for a permit.

4. Trains, buses, taxis, public toilets, hospitals and hotels were all separate for whites and blacks. This was also called as 'segregation'.

5. The blacks couldn't worship in the churches where the whites did. They were also not allowed to protest against this racial discrimination or form any associations.
