Golden Temple History. Sri Harmandir Sahib, popularly known as Golden Temple, literally means "the House of God”. The shrine consists of Darbar Sahib, which is surrounded by the Holy Tank (Amrit Sarovar). It was constructed under the aegis of Guru Arjan Dev Ji, the Fifth Sikh Guru.

Golden Temple is also known as Sri Harmandir Sahab and Sri Darbar Sahab.
Guru Arjun Dev, the fifth Sikh Guru, gave the idea of construction of a temple where Sikhs can come and worship.
The land for the temple was bought from the Zamindars by Guru Ramdas.
On August 1604 golden temple have been finished building.
