The parenchyma is the functional parts of an organ in the body. This is in contrast to the stroma, which refers to the structural tissue of organs, namely, the connective tissues.

Parenchyma is a simple permanent tissue which forms the basic packing tissue of plants. It stores food and other minerals of plants. These tissues have unspecialised cells with thin cell walls. Also cells of this tissue are loosely packed and have lots of intercellular spaces.
