India is very rightly classified as a country of festivals. True to this belief, India has scores and scores of festivals, unlike any other country of the world. This is because of the diverse cultures that exist in this subcontinent. All these different cultures and religions get tied together in bonds of love with these invisible threads of celebrations. Each sect has the right to celebrate as it wishes and everyone has the right and the interest to join in all celebrations of all others.

In India, festivals are so many because basically we celebrate almost everything, like nature, colour, friendship etc. There are festivals of different hues meant for the celebration of different achievements and occasions, whether religious or otherwise. There are national festivals which are celebrated by the whole country. These are three in number, on 26th January every year we celebrate our Republic Day when India was declared a Republic.

On the 15th of August every year, we celebrate our Independence Day, when we got our freedom from the shackles of the foreign rule of the British. On the 2nd of October every year, we celebrate Gandhi Jayanti. On this day India gave birth to a philosopher, guide, and politician, i.e. Mahatma Gandhi. These are the three national festivals that we all celebrate.
