let father's age be x and sons age be y

According to the question,

x+6 = 3(y+6)

x+6 = 3y+18

x-3y = 12 ––– (1)

again According to the question,

x-3 = 9(y-3)

x-3 = 9y-27

x-9y = -24 –––(2)

subtract 1 from 2 we get

x-3y = 12

- x-9y =-24

y =6(sons age )

putting value of y in equation 1

x - 3 * 6 = 12

x - 18 = 12

x = 30 (father's age)
