The mantle is a layer inside the Earth which is bounded below by a core and above by a crust. It's made of rock or ices. They are generally the largest and massive layer of the Earth.

Mantles are characteristic of planetary bodies that have undergone differentiation by density. All terrestrial planets (including Earth), a number of asteroids, and some moons have mantles.
