Democracy is a Greek word. It means a state in which leaders are chosen from among the general population, and not the aristocracy. Republic and democracy don't mean the same thing, and even democracyhas many interpretations.

India called democracy country because Democratic India is a free country; vote from any place, specific seats are given out for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes in Parliament called reserved voters in local body election a proportion of seats are given out for women candidates.
