\huge{\bf{\underline{\underline{QUANTUM\:NUMBERS:}}}}

=> Quantum numbers are set of 4 numbers which give complete information about an electron.

\large{\bf{\underline{\underline{TYPES\:OF\:QUANTUM\:NUMBERS:}}}}

1). Principal Quantum Number:

It describes the energy of the shell to which an electron belongs. Higher the value of n greater the distance from nucleus (radius).

2). Magnetic Quantum Number:

It tells about the orientation of orbitals therefore shape of the orbitals it's value lies between +L to -L including 0.

L = 0 = m = 0 (s)

L = 1 = m = +1, 0, -1 (p)

L = 2 = m = +2, +1, 0, -1, -2. (d)

3). Azimuthl Quantum Number:

It gives the subshell associated with the main shell.

Value of L ranges from 0 to n - 1.

Orbital angular momentum (L) =  \sf{\sqrt{l(l + 1)}\dfrac{h}{2\pi}}

4).Spin Quantum Number:

It tells about the spin of the electron which can be clockwise

 +\dfrac{1}{2} or anticlockwise  -\dfrac{1}{2}

Answer:

A quantum number is a value that is used when describing the energy levels available to atoms and molecules. An electron in an atom or ion has four quantum numbers to describe its state and yield solutions to the Schrödinger wave equation for the hydrogen Atom.
