Answer:

Indian mathematicians made early contributions to the study of the concept of zero as a number, negative numbers, arithmetic, and algebra. In addition, trigonometry was further advanced in India, and, in particular, the modern definitions of sine and cosine were developed there.

Indian Mathematics is very popular branch segregated from Maths.

In the classical period of Indian mathematics (400 AD to 1200 AD), important contributions were made by scholars like Aryabhata, Brahmagupta, Bhaskara II, and Varahamihira. Indian mathematicians made early contributions to the study of the concept of zero as a number, negative numbers, arithmetic, and algebra. Zero and its operation are first defined by [Hindu astronomer and mathematician] Brahmagupta in 628. He developed a symbol for zero: a dot underneath numbers.

➡ Let us now discuss about some of the great Indian mathematicians :

★ Aryabhatta was the first in the line of great mathematicians from the classical age of Indian Mathematics and Astronomy. His famous work are the” Aryabhatiya “and the”Arya-siddhanta”. The Mathematical part of the Aryabhatiya covers arithmetic. algebra, plane and spherical trigonometry.

★ Brahmagupta was the one to give the area of a triangle and the important rules of trigonometry such as values of the sin function. He introduced the formula for cyclic quadrilaterals. He also gave the value of 'Pi' as square root ten to be accurate and 3 as the practical value. Brahmagupta gave a simple method to construct cyclic quadrilaterals with integer sides, integer diagonals and integer area. The product of any two sides of a triangle is equal to the product of its circum - diameter and altitude drawn on the third side.

★ Varahamihira was an Indian astrologer whose main work was a treatise on mathematical astronomy which summarised earlier astronomical treatises. He discovered a version of Pascal's triangle and worked on magic squares.

★ Bhaskaracharya was a Teacher, a Mathematician and also an Astronomer. He was born in Sahyadri the beutiful Maharastra terrains. Brahmagupta in the 7th Century, developed an "Astronomical Model" using which Bhaskara was able to define "Astronomical Quantities".Some of Bhaskara's contributions to mathematics include the following: A proof of the Pythagorean theorem by calculating the same area in two different ways and then cancelling out terms to get a^2 + b^2 = c^2. In Lilavati, solutions of quadratic, cubic and quartic indeterminate equations are explained.

★ Madhava is considered the founder of the Kerala school of astronomy and mathematics. One of the greatest mathematician-astronomers of the Middle Ages, Madhava made pioneering contributions to the study of infinite series, calculus, trigonometry, geometry, and algebra.

★ Srinivasa Ramanujan was one of India's greatest mathematical geniuses. He made substantial contributions to the analytical theory of numbers and worked on elliptic functions, continued fractions, and infinite series. In 1900 he began to work on his own on mathematics summing geometric and arithmetic series.Though he was a lawyer by trade, he was a brilliant mathematician and made many contribution to the field of mathematics. He single-handedly founded modern number theory as well as made advancements in areas such as probability theory, infinitesimal calculus, analytic geometry, and optics.
