Given that total number of plants, the gardener has = 1000.

Given that number of rows and number of columns are same.

As it has already given that columns and rows are equal, we need to find a perfect square nearest to 1000.

(31)^2 < 1000 (32)^2

= > 961 < 1000 < 1024.

The perfect square which is nearest to 1000 = 1024

= > 1024 - 1000

= > 24.

Therefore the minimum number of plants he needs more for this = 24.

Hope this helps!
