what are the characteristic features of Euglenoid?

Hey there!!
Given below are some characteristics of euglenoids..
They are unicellular protists...and are usually found in fresh water like rivers etc..
They have a small light sensitive eye spot..
They lack a cell wall and instead have a protein rich wall named Pellicle...
Also..they have features of both plants and animals which makes it harder for them to classify.. And hence are considered as a connecting link between plants and animals..

  • Euglenoids belongs to kingdom protistia.
  • They are a group of unicellular flagellate eukaryotes.
  • They are seen in fresh stagnant water.
  • Ex:Euglena.
  • Their body is coverd by a protein layer called pellicle.
  • They have two flagellae, one is short and other is long.
  • The anterior part of their body consists of cytostome , cytopharynxand resevior.
  • on eye spot or stigma is present on the membrane of the reservior .
  • Reproduction in euglinoids is by longitudnal binary fission.
  • They are autotrophic, but in the absence of sunlight they exhibit.
