A person with sickle cell anemia is less prone to malaria.

Option three is correct.

Usually nature destroys harmful variation but sometimes less harmful variations are adapted by nature (improper sickle shaped RBCs) to destroy more harmful variation (malaria).

The malarian protozoa requires RBCs for completing it's life cycle. But when the RBCs become sickle shaped, they are unable to complete their life cycle.

Hope this helps you ☺️
