Opening and closing of stomata is controlled by guard cells ,When waters enter into the guard cells,it inflates,this causes the stomata to open during the day and when guard cells looses the water,it causes stomal opening to close.

Guard cells are cells surrounding each stoma. They help to regulate the rate of transpiration by opening and closing the stomata. the guard cells have lost water, which causes the cells to become flaccid and the stomatal opening to close
