sati was an ancient culture of India where if the husband dies then the wife was to also be burnt with dead body of his husband

The Bengal Sati Regulation whichbanned the Sati practice in all jurisdictions of British India waspassed on December 4, 1829 by the then Governor-General Lord William Bentinck. The regulation described the practice of Sati as revolting to the feelings of human nature.
