Ho chi minh trail was actually built by the Vietnamese but for safety the built it outside Vietnam inthe neighbouring Laos and Cambodia with branch lines extending into southern Vietnam.
The US regularly bombed this trail to disrupt supplies , they were quickly rebuilt and due to bombing , the vietnamese tried to avoid causalities in vietnam built it outside Vietnam.
