Richard Ebright being the only child didn't have any playmates. He had nothing to do in his town Reading,Pensylvania and hence started collecting butterflies as a hobby. He had collected all 25 varieties of butterflies found in his vicinity when he was in second grade. Being interested in learning new things, his mother encouraged him by bringing him toys such as telescopes, microscopes and mounting materials. She also once brought a book called Travels of monarch X which deepened his interest in learning.
Ebrights hobbies were what made him interested in gaining more knowledge about insects and butterflies which nurtured him into a great scientist.
