here is your answer

gold leaf electroscope was invented by Ibrahim Bennett. the electroscope consists of two thin strips of gold foil called gold leaf attached to a metal rod which is suspended inside a glass. the metal rod passes through the mouth of the bell jar and is held in position by an insulating plug. a metal disc is fitted at the upper end of the metallic rod and the lower end of the rod is flattened to form strip. today's gold strips are fixed. the gold strips are parallel to the strips and capable of spreading out and coming close to each other. when a charged object touches the cap of the metal disc the charge flows over the conducting metal and gold leaf gets charged by conduction. both the gold leaves acquire the same charge. hence diverges as like charge repel. divider its diverges the bigger is the magnitude of charge. to determine the nature of charge the electroscope is first charged with non charger se within negatively charged Ebonite rod. the gold leaves will get negatively charged and move .

hope it will be helpful for you.
