The opening and closing of stomata is controlled by the guard cells .
when water flows into the guard cells they swell , becomes curved and cause the pores to open. On the other hand , when the guard cell losses water they shrink and becomes straight and close the stomata pores. So , when plant does not need carbon dioxide and wants to conserve water the stomata pores closed.
