The process of cell division by which most of the cell divide for growth is known as mitosis. In this process the mother cell divides to form two identical daughter cells. The daughter cells has the same number of chromosomes as the mother cell. It helps in growth and repair of tissues in organisms.
The process by which the cell divides for reproduction in organisms is known as meiosis. In this process specific cells of reproductive organs or tissues in animals and plants divide to form gametes, which after fertilisation give rise to offspring. When a cell divides by meiosis, it produces 4 new cells instead of 2 and gets only half the number of chromosomes of the mother cell.
Answer:
- Mitosis is a form of cell division where the cell splits into two, each identical to the original cell.
- Meiosis is a type of cell division that results in four cells, each having ½ the chromosomes of the original cell
- Cell division is a process by which parent cell divides into 2 or more daughter cells.
- Cell divides by 2 ways : -
- Mitosis - Mitosis is a process of cell division in which one parent cell divides in two genetically identical daughter cells. In mitosis Chromosome number remains same in daughter cells
- Meiosis - Meiosis is involved in the formation of gametes. This process results in four daughter cells developing from a single parent cell. Chromosome number reduce to half in daughter cells in case of meiosis.
