Solution :

Maddie is indeed an emotional girl. If we go through the story of The Hundred Dresses (both parts) we see some changes from initial to final persona of some characters.

Change in the nature of Maddie :

We see at initial phase of the story, Maddie and Peggy both used to tease Wanda a lot. They used to play many games which used to downgrade or embarassed Wanda in front of everyone. This unfortunately led Wanda change her school and shift to another town due to constant trouble and shameful feelings by others. She initially got irritated by this. Maddie, many a times thought to stop Peggy from doing such things that is playing games with Wanda. But she couldn't gather up much courage for the same. The reason was that Peggy used to be her bést friénd. Her condition was also like Wanda ae she herself wore old clothes of Peggy and was even poor. But since she was friend of Peggy, she wasn't treated as like as Wanda. Even Maddie feared that it Peggy and her group stop playing games on Wanda, then their target would be herself. Thus she dropped the plan of convincing Peggy.

But at later part of the story, we get Maddie's nature was changed. She now didn't think of her friendship instead she gained courage to fight for truth. She even was very sad by the decision of Wanda of getting transferred to another town. She even decided to stand against wrong everytime and got many dreams for such situations. She wanted to express her grief to Wanda and wanted to say sorry.

Comparison and contrast with Peggy ::

Maddie and Peggy are different in nature a lot. We see that initially both were same at a point of teasing Wanda, but still Maddie felt sorry for Wanda. And at final stage we see that Maddie wanted to express her grief to Wanda and whole heartedly accepts her mistake. But Peggy at later part gives excuses for her mistake and doesn't accepts her mistake though she wanted to be sorry. So we can get that Maddie wanted to improve her nature but Peggy just wanted excuses to cover her mistake and hide them.
