Answer:

The properties through which carbon has versatile nature are:

It always forms compound by forming covalent compound.

It mainly owns the property of catenation in all the elements.

It has tetra valency which helps it to form long branched chains of compounds.

Carbon is 6th element in the periodic table having atomic mass 12.

Carbon always forms a Covalent bond, formed by mutual sharing of ion between atoms.

It is a bad conductor of electricity.

The four major reason determining the carbon has versatile nature :-

  • Catenation :- The property of connection of carbon atom in a covalent bond by itself , in a ring, chain, branch etc. structures.

eg.

-C - C - C -

Factors determining Catenation :-

➝ The size shortage.

➝ The Electronic configuration are rare.

C-C bond are bonded by great reliablity.

The more number of carbon compound is due to max. tendency of carbon for catenation.

  • Tetracovalency of carbon :-

C = 6 = 2,4

Its valency is 4 .

Carbon become strong with compounds which makes this compound stable.Which increase the carbon count.

  • Tendency to form multiple bond :-

Carbon is smaller in size , its smaller size leads to form ( di or tri bond ) with other carbon atom.

It increase the number of carbon compound.

  • Isomerism :-

It states two or more than two structure ,with different properties is isomerism.

C6H14 , C4H10 .
