To find :—

  • Dencity of the packet.
  • Mass of the packet.

Formula applied :

dencity  = \frac{mass}{volume}

Solution :

Here, Mass of packet = 500 g

And, Volume of packet = 350 cm³

Now,

dencity \: of \: packet =  \frac{mass \: of \: packet}{volume \: of \: packet}

 =  \frac{500 \: g}{350 \:  {cm}^{3} }

 = 1.42 \: g \:  {cm}^{3}

Since the dencity of packet (1.42 g cm³) is more than the dencity of water (1 g cm-³), therefore , the packet will sink in water.

The packet which sink in water will displace water equal to its own volume. Since the volume of the packet is 350 cm³, so it will displace 350 cm³ of water. We have now to calculate the mass of 350 cm³ of water.

Now,

dencity \: of \: water =  \frac{mass \: of \: water}{volume \: of \: water}

So,

1 \: g \:  {cm}^{ - 3}  =  \frac{mass \: of \: water}{350 {cm}^{3} }

And,

mass \: of \: water = 1 \: g {cm}^{3}  \times 350 {cm}^{3}

 = 350 \: g

Thus, the mass of water displaces by the packet is 350 grams.
