According to me, Bassanio was the main character of the drama 'Merchant Of Venice.' Bassanio is the man who created the whole base of the story. If he never needed the 3000 ducats to go to meet Portio, the rich heiress of Belmont, the story would have not got a plot around which it could have been evolved.
