IRRIGATION :

There are different types of IRRIGATION systems :

• Manual Irrigation : where water is supplied to the plants manually using cans and other means.

• Most popular being, Surface Irrigation mainly by way of flooding in a natural way (gravity flow).

• Well and Bore (Tube) Well Irrigation : water is lifted from open well or bore well to irrigate crops. This method is used where sufficient ground water is available.

• Drip Irrigation : Water is supplied to the roots directly with the help of dippers and emitters on or below the soil. This is very effective and there's very little wastage. Chemicals, fertilisers and nutrients are applied directly without much wastage. There is high yield due to this system.

• Sprinkle Irrigation : In this system water is sprayed with pressure on the surface.

• Center privote Irrigation : Water is distributed by a system of sprinklers that move on wheeled towers in circular pattern.

• Lateral move Irrigation : Water is distributed through a series of pipes, each with and set of sprinklers, which are rotated either by hand or with a purpose - built mechanism. The sprinklers move certain distance across the field and then need to have the water hose reconnected for the next distance. This system tends to be less expensive but requires more labor than others.

Different methods of irrigation are:

1) Canal system:

=> Canals take irrigation water from rivers, storage lakes, dams or barrages to agricultural lands.

2) River lift system:

=> It is useful in those areas where canal flow is insufficient or irregular due to inadequate water release.

3) Drip irrigation:

=> In this method, the pipe providing the plant with irrigation water runs along with the surface of the plants.

4) Sprinkle system:

=> In this method, the water is sprinkled all over the fields with the help of a sprinkler.
