Answer:

Let mass of each body is m and initial velocities  is u and zero respectively.

According to conservation of linear momentum,

     mu = mv1cos + mv2cos [along horizontal direction ] "..................(1)  

0 = mv1sun- mv2sin............(2)

For an elastic collision , kinetic energy is  also conserved

E.g., 1/2mu^2 = 1/2mv1^2 + 1/2mv2^2

u^2 = v1^2 + v2^2 ...........(3)

Squaring and adding equations (1) and (2) ,

u^2 = v1^2 + v2^2 + 2v1v2(cosθ1cosθ2 -sinθ2)

u^2 = v1^2 + v2^2 + 2v1v2cos(θ1+θ2)..............(4)

Compare equations (3) and (4),

cos(θ1+θ2)= 0

(θ1+θ2) = pi/2
