Speech : Dhanteras
A very warm and pleasant good Morning respected principal mam, worthy teachers, seniors and my dear friends. Today, I Aarohi of std 9 th A, present here to express my views on “Dhanteras”.
Dhanteras is celebrated on the 13th lunar day of Krishna paksha in the Vikram samvat Hindu calendar month of Kartik.
Dhanteras literally means, 'Dhan' means wealth, and 'teras' means thirteenth day of krishna paksha.
On Dhanteras, goddess lakshmi is worshipped to provide health, prosperity and well being.
Now, let's come to the legend behind 'Dhanteras',
The legend behind the Dhanteras is the story of 16 years old son of the King hima. He was forecasted his death by the snake biting at the 4th day of marriage. His wife was very clever and she found a idea to save his husband.
She collected her all the jewellery and coins of silver and gold and kept it at the heap of the room. And lighted the earthen lamps. When the God of Death arrived in the form of a Serpent.
His eyes were dazzled, and he cannot bite her husband. Hence, the young Prince was safe due to his wife.
And, from that day this day is celebrated as “yamdeepdan”. As the ladies of the house lighting the 'diyas', burning throughout the night in respect of the God Yama.
Thanks for the patient hearing!
