Formula of refractive index .

Refractive index = speed of light in air / speed of light in a medium

Given :

speed of light in  the medium is 1.5 × 10⁸ m/s

We know that speed of light in air is 3 × 10⁸ m/s

So:

Refractive index = ( 3 × 10⁸ ) / ( 1.5 × 10⁸ )

                           = 3 / 1.5

                           = 2

The refractive index of the medium is 2.
