ANSWER :

DEFINITION :

Isomerism is a phenomenon due to which some compounds have same molecular formula but different structural formulae.

FOUR CHARACTERISTIC :

(i) They differ in structural formula.

(ii) They differ in melting point.

(iv) They differ in solubility in same solvent.

(iii) They differ in boiling point.

THERE ARE TWO ISOMERS OF BUTANE

The structure are in the attachment provided.

  • EXPLAIN ISOMERISM

Those compound which have same molecular formula but are differ in their chemical properties ,that compound are called isomer and property is called isomerism.for EXAMPLE CH3CH2OH and CH3OCH3 are isomer but first is a alcoholic compound and 2 nd is ether compound both have same molecular formula but have different chemical properties

  • four characterics of isomers

  1. they have same molecular formula but different property
  2. two isomer can have different boiling point
  3. they have same atomic mass and have same no of atom
  4. they show same property if they are of same functional group
