Home Guard is a segment of voluntary military force, unique in characteristic as it is only prevalent in the Indian sub-continent.

This segment was reorganized in the year 1962 after the Sino-India war.

Any Indian who falls between the age of 18 and 50 can become a home guard.

Being recruited for a period of three to five years, home guards can be selected from any section of the society be it professionals, students, doctors, teachers or any person who wants to voluntarily work for the betterment of the society.
