Home they brought her warrior dead: She nor swoon'd nor utter'd cry: All her maidens, watching, said, "She must weep or she will die." Then they praised him, soft and low, Call'd him worthy to be loved, Truest friend and noblest foe; Yet she neither spoke nor moved. Stole a maiden from her place, Lightly to the warrior stepped, Took the face-cloth from the face; Yet she neither moved nor wept. Rose a nurse of ninety years, Set his child upon her knee— Like summer tempest came her tears— "Sweet my child, I live for thee." ~ Alfred, Lord tennyson After reading the above poem.. Answer:

1. the onlooker's were shocked upon why did the wife just froze, because everyone was expecting her to react violently or at least cry a little but the grief was too much to e expressed in actions, so she just froze.

2. the action of her showing the lady his child, shows the nurse being wise and polite and shows how her being a nurse is her nature to help the ones in need. Old people usually are portrayed as the experienced and the wisest ones so she was the one chosen by the poet for the action.

3. The loss of a loved one is the most tragic things one can experience in a lifetime, and that is what the woman goes through. And the sorrow and the grief showed by her by not reacting at all was how much it affected her that she could not even let it out, until she saw her child.
