2 examples which support her statement are

1) Alkanes- They have same general formula of C_{n}H_{2n+2}

- CH4, C2H6, C3H8

Alkenes- They have same general formula of  C_{n}H_{2n}

-C2H4, C3H6, C4H8

From above examples it is observed that 2 consecutive homologues differ by CH2 group.
