Given : Horizontal and vertical components of earth is magnetic field at a place are 0.22T and 0.38T respectively.

To find : The resultant intensity of earth's magnetic field.

solution : horizontal component of earth's magnetic field, B_H = 0.22 T

vertical component of earth's magnetic field, B_V = 0.38 T

The resultant of earth's magnetic field, B = \sqrt{B_H^2+B_V^2}

= \sqrt{(0.22)^2+(0.38)^2}

= \sqrt{.0484+0.1444}

= \sqrt{0.1928}

≈ 0.44 T

Therefore resultant intensity of earth's magnetic field is 0.44 T.
