when the power is shared between the different organs { legislative , executive and judiciary } in the same level it is called horizontal distribution of power. each organ can check on the other institutions through which balance of power is ensured.

even though  the judiciary headed by the judge is appointed by the executive, they can check the functioning of the executive and the laws made by legislatures .

through this it is ensured that the power is checked and balanced and no organ gets unlimited power.

the purpose of adopting vertical distribution of power sharing in india is due to the following reasons:

I) when the power is shared between the different levels of the government , it ensures that the functioning of the country is well maintained by two or three levels of the government .

II) the central government looks after the functioning of the whole country and is responsible for  common subjects of national interests

III) the state government looks after the day to day administration of their state

IV)from points 2 and 3 it ensures that there is a division of power  between the different levels and the state government is not subordinate to central government

V) vertical distribution of power makes sure that the central government cannot not force its will on the entire country and also that majoritarian measures are not adopted by the government as we saw how majoritarianism affects as in sri lanka

VI) it also ensures a stable and a well functioning country .
