In a flowering plant,the substances that would need to be transported are water,minerals and nutrients. Over small distances substances move by diffusion and cytoplasmic streaming.

Transport over large distances proceeds through tha vascular system(xylem and phloem) and is called translocation.

An important aspect that needs to be considered is the direction of transportation. In rooted plants,the transport in xylem is unidirectional from roots to stems whereas in organic material and nutrients are transported in multidirection.
