Hormones which regulate the rhythm of life are known as Carcadian hormones. Although the main Carcadian hormone is Melatonin other hormones like leptin, cortisol, growth hormones, ghrelin, etc. are also important for the rhythm of life.

Melatonin is the hormone responsible for regulating the sleep-wake cycle in a human being. This hormone is secreted by the pineal gland.

The secretion of this hormone is regulated by light sensitivity as the highest amount of melatonin secreted is in the dark or during the night and the lowest amount of melatonin is secreted in in bright light or during the daytime.
