A new row has surfaced at M S University’s Faculty of Performing Arts. Videos and photographs of son of head of department of vocal department allegedly using the faculty premises for holding practice sessions for a private garba have surfaced.
It is being alleged that Swarit Kelkar, son of Rajesh Kelkar, head of vocal department, allegedly used the faculty premises for organising practice sessions for his troupe which is set to perform at BITA Garba Mahotsav. Swarit is lead singer at the garba venue.
Kelkar, however, told TOI that such practice sessions continue at the department round the year. “The same group had recently represented the university at Abu and won a prize,” said the department head.
“The university had planned Ratri before Navratri on September 27. The faculty every year organises garba on the fifth day of Navratri and this year we are going to organise ‘Ratri after Navratri’ on October 10 and October 11. Everywhere, the same group will perform and sing,” he said.
“It is just a coincidence that the group was holding practice sessions till September 24 at the department while an individual shared the session with the caption as the one being organised held for BITA Garba Mahotsav,” he said.
